Land and Equipment Conservation

The Southern Michigan Railroad Society was formed in 1982 with the plan to preserve the Clinton Branch railroad from Clinton to Lenawee Junction. The organization's greatest asset is SMRS's ownership of the Clinton Branch itself.  The SMRS is similar to a land conservancy.  A conservancy functions to preserve land and prevent it from being developed -- keeping farmland as farmland, etc.  Along the SMRS line, the Nature Conservancy owns a block of scenic landClick here to learn more about why SMRS is important to our future and why it's worth saving.
